1954 Rokakuke 8-9 Set

    Description:  This is large set from 1955 in terms of menko and has all the popular rikishi of the time.  This set is unique in the fact that it was printed on both thick and thin paper stock.  Interestingly, the thick menko all have hand cuts on them leading me to believe that they were issued in sheets and possibly were prizes for winner menko.  The thin stock menko have uniform edges and were factory cut and were probably packaged in boxes for distribution.  This is a great set to collect because of these variations and trying to collect both the thin and thick versions is a fun challenge.

   Front Design:  Most of the menko show the Rikishi in various poses on a solid colored background.  Shikona is on the front.

   Back Design:  The Rikishi's shikona appears vertically in the middle column with the Gu-Choki-Pa underneath the shikona.  On the right side is the Rikishi's rank, height and weight.  There is an 8 or 9 digit fighting number at the bottom.  Printed in a blue-green or navy blue ink.
