1955 Denki 8-9 Set

Description: Not much is known about this set but it seems to have been printed in 1955. What is confusing is that this set has Maegashira Itsutsunada, but he only used this name until the end of 1952; a full year before Tochinishiki became a Yokozuna. But this set also features Tochinishiki is his early Yokozuna reign so there is conflicting date. This set also has Wakanohana as a Sekiwake in which he only spent less than two years at. These two Yokozuna created the late 1950's "Tochi-Waka" era and created the sumo boom of this era. Menko were sold pre-cut in boxes and included in these boxes were gold-proof cards.

Front Design: Most of the rikishi are standing in their kesho-mawashi with a solid color background.

Back Design: The back of the menko features the rikishi's shikona vertically in the middle of the menko along with the rank along the top. The Gu-Choki-Pa is at the bottom left along with height and weight info on both sides of the shikona. There is a 8 or 9 digit fighting number along the bottom.
