R551

1955 Kagome Rikishi 10 Set

R551-1, Type 1: Thick cardboard, glossy front

R551-2, Type 2: Thin cardboard, unglossed front

Description:  This is another famous set produced by Kagome.  This set has photographic images of the rikishi superimposed on drawings of their bodies.  Two versions exist where the menko are on nice, thick paper stock with a gloss coat or on a thin paper stock with no gloss coat.  The thicker ones were ideal menko because of their weight.  This is a also a very big set in terms of number of menko and size.  This set is almost identical to the 1953 Kagome Rikishi 7 set except only the Yokozuna have their rank printed on the back.  All the other rikishi have blank rank info.  This set is also distinguished by the two circles around the Gu-Choki-Pa mark at the top instead of the one on the 1953 set.  There are also 10 digits in the fighting number instead of 7 in the 1953 set.
