1958 Dai Gunbai 6 Set

    Description:  These menko are fairly common on the market today.  This set has many of the mainstream rikishi of the time.  It was a very popular set and consequently many of the menko on the market today have lots of wear and tear from game use.   One nice card from this set is Maegashira Amatsunada who only spent three tournaments in the Maegashira ranks before falling into Juryo and almost out of sumo history except for this one card!  A good starter set for anyone interested in getting into sumo menko collecting.  This set has identical backs like the 1958 Dai Gunbai Bromide 6 Set and 1960 Dai Gunbai 6 Set except for the backs are printed in brown instead of a blue-grey.

   Front Design:  Most of the cards show the Rikishi in various poses on solid colored backgrounds or on the dohyo with spectators behind them.  Shikona is vertical in block print.

   Back Design:  A large gunbai is divided into two columns with the rikishi's shikona on the right half and the stable and birthplace in the left half.  A Gu-Choki-Pa is in upper right with a 6 digit fighting number at the bottom.  Menko in this set are printed in brown.  There seems to be two versions in the shape of the gunbai along the bottom , but I believe they all belong to the same set.
